Science, Dharm and Art
Science is the search for truth, Dharm is the experience of truth and Art is the expression of truth. Science is the first step with an aim to find the truth. It can live without dharm for a long time as it has. Well, it has been denying it and it can live that way. But as science evolves people won’t just want to know the truth but would want to be the truth. As no road can exist without a destination, science cannot live without dharm for a longer time. This possibility is seen every other day when many scientists talk about dharm towards the end of their lives. Science will have to become dharm as it is the desire to be one with the experience of truth. This is the only way humanity can experience satisfaction. Now, dharm can live without art for a long time. But when the truth is experienced at a deeper level then what we have become is not enough. What we have become will want to express itself. Art is born the day experience of dharma is so vast and deep that it starts overflowing. Experience of truth is not enough, expression of truth is inevitable. Strangely enough, the amount of truth gained by experience is much less than the amount of truth that comes back when expressed. Experience of truth becomes an expression of truth. Science is the first step of man's journey, dharm is second and art is the third and last. In human history, these steps happened in a different order. Dharm came first, followed by art and science came at last. Dharm that comes before science will be non-scientific and superstitious. Dharm that came before science on earth was true for those who had experienced it but for the rest of us, it could never have been more than a superstition; something we just believe or not believe in. Dharm that will come after the proper development of science can only be a scientific one. That’s why there should have been one dharm but instead, we have many ‘religions’. Dharm, the experience of truth, can only be one as diseases can be many but health is one. It didn’t happen as it was not scientific. For the first time, conditions are arriving for a proper manifestation of dharm. The dharm that will manifest in the future will not be Hindu or Islam or Christian or Jew or Jain or Sikh or Buddhism for that matter. It will just be dharm. The day when it will incarnate for all of humanity, we will free ourselves from the stupid things happening in the name of dharma. It is strange that not only a common man has a religion but a hermit (a sanyasi) also has one. Societies' diseases, definitions, adjectives, limitations, bondages and slavery catch hermits as well that it wasn’t even possible for them to be just dharmic. Dharm was born. It was deep in the experience of a few. But it could not have reached the lives of many till science first cleared the ground. Now that it’s done, dharm will not be accepted non-scientifically. This has created a strange situation for people who are holding on to superstitions, they think that the whole world is becoming adharmic. But in fact, the world is trying to free itself from superstitions and expressing the possibility of the birth of dharm. The conditions have become such that people who don’t go to temples or churches and do religious stuff are possibly more dharmic than people who do all that stuff. Most intelligent people with independent thought refuse to stand in the prison of religion. It does not mean that people are becoming adharmic, it just means that dharm is trying to become scientific by leaving non-scientific things and foundations. If we look back, we’ll see that in ancient times the most intelligent, evolved man was dharmic. Today we find the least literate, stupidest, most backward person is religious. Isn’t it strange? Today, a person who is educated properly and can think clearly becomes adharmic. They say modern education is wrong. But that’s false. The thing is that dharm is now trying to be scientific and well thought out. And when dharm will want to be well thought out, it’s only natural that people who can think independently would want to get out of bondage and blind beliefs. Dharm can now become scientific because science itself has evolved. A scientist could deny the existence of god/ cosmic intelligence/ divine presence a hundred years from now but today's scientists cannot deny it with the same certainty. And science, making way for dharm, will be followed by true art. But it will only come when dharm has come in abundance. If that is so then what is it that we today call “art”? For the most part, what we call art is an eruption of lust. Be it in the form of poetry or painting, dance or sculpture, music or cinema. Whatever we have in the name of art are nothing but stimulants for human lusts and senses. True art is born only after dharm is realised but dharm itself is not born properly. Most of the art is an elaboration of human lust and the little that is not consists of people who have known dharm and have given birth to art. There are better singers than Meera and better dancers than Chaitanya but her songs and his dance are not performed by them, it’s done by the divine. When the cup is full and is overflowing. Art spills out of it.
